I went to Slovenia last year and it was beautiful. As with all fo.am events we ate a lot and drank a lot and during the last meal, enjoyed a long wine-tasting evening. The maitre de cérémonie had made a map which I have turned into a digital thing. It seems Slovenian wines are a… Continue reading Slovenian wines: a map
The politician’s handbook to East London
A few weeks ago, I was chatting to Korinna who told me that the big trend in construction, post economic downturn, is refitting old buildings. I was reminded of this when reading that the Olympic Park Legacy Company was looking for ideas on what to do with the Olympic Media Centre if the decided not… Continue reading The politician’s handbook to East London
Trans vs Inter
Transmedia, transdisciplinary, etc.. are clearly a fashionable expression but really… “Trans is a Latin noun or prefix, meaning “across”, “beyond” or “on the opposite side”.” “Inter is a Latin prefix meaning “between”, among, or “within a group”.” Same difference? Not? Dunno but it’s bugging me.

Not quite recovered from my recent travels, I hastily put together a short rant on… Continue reading Papercamp 2 writeup

People who fund science, write books about science,… Continue reading The Next 10 years in the “future” of science.
McKinsey reports on women in business
The problem with the women in tech reports, i’ve decided, is the questionnaires they make you fill out. Horrible.

This coffee map from the World Barista Championship website is one of them and I made a Google map for it. Enjoy. To make & to make better.
In the little insular community that is the building I work in, you acquire habits. Surrounded by talented peers, constantly admiring others and wanting to do work that is as good, as challenging, as great, your expectations of others start to change. I’ve found myself asking “so what do you do” instead of “how do… Continue reading To make & to make better.
