I just came back from a few days in Venice for the art biennale so wanted to share some of my favourite works as it’s still on till November 22nd. Here they are, in order of how much I loved them:
- Canicula, a series of 8 films at the Complesso dell’Ospedaletto (an old care home)
- Helter Skelter show at Prada Foundation which features Love is the Message The Message is Death by Arthur Jafa and his scuptural representation of the famous 1933 photograph of the back of an enslaved man amongst many other works. That image was recently removed from use in US National Parks by the current administration.
- Oriol Vilanova‘s postcard ‘flea market’ in the Spanish pavillion
- Sawangwongse Yawnghwe‘s maps of complexity and past historical events
- The double bill of Lorna Simpson and Paulo Nazareth at Punta Della Dogana (Pineault Collection)
- The Michael Armitage show in Palazzo Grassi
- The floppy and scaffolded bodies of Tori Wrånes and Benjamin Orlow in the Nordic pavillion
- The nihilistic dico by Andreas Angelidakis for the Greek pavillion
As I recently had to pay £79 to a DRM company, I’m going to be a bit more careful about art imagery so you’ll just have to click through to see what I’m talking about. You should go, it’s beautiful there.
