God I love holidays. I went to Nice and had a fabulous time (even popped over to Marseille to spend the new year with friends). I hope you also enjoyed yourself. As a reminder, I started Sunday Scraps in 2018 as a way to clear my open tabs. Best to think of these as digital collage rather than a curated list. If you scroll all the way down, you can sign up to get notified when a new post comes along. I am in no way encouraging you to do this en masse, I just know how shit social media is as a replacement for RSS. So here we go.
I learnt about ‘l’école de Nice‘ a local modern art movement and community in the 60s and 70s / an old website about home computers is so relaxing to look at / am seriously considering starting a private library so looking at Koha / apparently I should watch Victoria / I would quite like to see Gillian Crampton Smith on the King’s honours list or be made RDI / not sure I buy the idea of otroverts / on the rise of English in business and politics / how jazz can inspire art which then inspires classical composers / I had a terrible £7 slice of galette des rois in Fitzrovia so I now want to find the best place for it / the 1994 digital arts collective Antirom / on the scam that is Google Maps ratings / the Receiver of Wreck must see all sorts / my friend Conrad wrote an article about the ethics of FIRE.
Added to my commonplace book:
‘Wealthy folks in New York and LA have, for generations, pumped money into civic institutions. Tech elites mostly scorn traditional cultural venues and prefer to fund the next wave of technology instead”. ( from this excellent long read by Dan Wang)
“No project, no statement, just feelings – this was what I felt when I took these photographs. The blues are immersive. They were hard times, of loneliness and sorrow. But looking back, the blues were a feeling that let you know that you exist.” (photographer Antoine Rozès)
“There are no deep, unending, psychic wounds,” he says of himself. “I think probably you’re just born with melancholy.” (painter Joseph Yaeger)
In job seeking news the Chief Programmes Officer role at WRAP and the CEO role at New Local look great. I am available for work from April so if you need a steadfast leader, a great PM or someone with an expansive network who can help you create new partnerships or ideas, slide into those DMs. Available in-house or outside IR35.
In social news, a friend told me about Kairos, Ibraaz and Hurry Up We’re Dreaming so I’m going to try to attend some of their events. I’m also going to try to add a third weekly physical activity to my roster of jive classes and yoga which feels like a fantastic way to start the second half of my 40s.
