Sunday Scraps #113

It’s really hard to understand what Lindsey Vonn was thinking but I hope my nephew (now competing at a high level in acrobatic ski back in Québec) isn’t watching the Olympics / there must be a german compound word for a location that gets used over and over again in the visual arts / I went for a daytrip to Bristol and bought a couple of prints from students Demi Insall & Ruby Farmer / I enjoyed Spike Island gallery , the Breuer (Bauhaus) exhibition at the Stradling Collection and Cosmos at the RWA / if you’re in Leeds, my friend is the producer of this unique take on A Midsummer Night’s Dream / an event about colour blindness in design in Newcastle / the story behind the photoshoot of Sade’s seminal album is all you need to know about how we treat women at work / I am starting to think the leadership training industry should be regulated / these little solar robots are adorable /  a feminist take on AI ‘agents’ is always a good thing / the 404 Festival has a fun open call .

Adding to my commonplace book:

I had a bad habit, of missing lovers past, my brother used to call it, “Eating out of the trash” (Taylor Swift’s new song Opalite)

It has rained every day for the last 37 days in the UK. […] Unfortunately, there’s no end in sight. (said the man from the Met Office)

Are you a living thing that is dying or a dying thing that is living? (asked Emma Talbot at the Arnolfini)

In social news, seeing lots of friends for post-Christmas catchups which is lovely. Looking forward to the healing powers of the sea both figuratively at the Seurat show and actually next Saturday with a large group of friends and their dogs.

In work news (am renaming this section to make it more jolly), catching up with a few people I haven’t spoken to in ages as a result of my weekend Linkedin post. I applied for a role in Jan, got a screening call and haven’t heard back since. I am trying to be patient. Dreaming up some plans with Emma and thinking about a LoCDI summer school in autumn 2027. Finalising the programme for Papercamp 5 too.
