Sunday Scraps #111

Jerusalem stone cutting on the West Bank.

I really hate having to worry about American politics so this Ezra Klein podcast episode made me feel a little better / I worry when AI unicorns start making promises they probably can’t keep / the more I look at it, the more I see that LLMs are a response to the plethora of bloated, badly designed, unreadable pdfs we’ve been dumping on the internet for the past 15 years / the Pollock Toy Museum in Fitzrovia are looking for volunteers / this paper a friend sent me on planning is all sorts of wonderful especially if you work in government or systemic design circles / these flood resilience demonstrator models are the future Barbie dreamhouse / a super interesting anti-big tech event in Berlin / my friend Jude talking to author Dan Everett / another take on the history of ADHD.

Added to my commonplace book:

Unclenching into life demands that we relax in the midst of the uncertainty and insecurity, because “in the midst of the uncertainty and insecurity” is where we always are. The reward is the aliveness, agency and sense of purchase on life that comes from no longer pretending otherwise. (Oliver Burkeman’s newsletter).

In job seeking news, the quest for new projects continues. People I know are being really sweet and sending me job adverts. Keep it going.

In social news, I had a great time watching George re-perform her interpretation of an Elon Musk speech at the Chisendale Dance Space, a unique contemporary dance charity. Go see some stuff there, it’ll be good (even if it’s in Mile End).
