Sunday Scraps #104

Had a pretty arty week since my last post and can really recommend the video installation at Artangel, the Diane Arbus and Joseph Yaeger shows in Soho and the Kerry James Marshall at the RA. Just be prepared to sell a kidney to pay for it. / I refuse to link to the press release but i hope JP Morgan don’t design a horrid tower / is Jonny Ive making a bar of chocolate or a gold medal and why does Sam want to bite it? / the history of the Royal Polytechnic Institution is fascinating / what led to our eggs having standards / dye-free cotton is a new one on me (from this great breakdown of how to buy a good white t-shirt) / a long read on the UK energy Grid in the post-war era / of course there’s an English Breakfast Society / if anyone wants to buy me a gift, please buy me a silly scent-less candle in the shape of a lemon / interesting competency framework from Engineers without borders / only tech bros would think the (illegal) 996 working pattern is a flex / a conference about wilding gardens.

Socially, I’ve signed up to a dating app. This counts as doing something about my very neglected love life. If you find me there, please don’t say hi, it would be too embarrassing.

Added to my commonplace book:

‘That edge of alienation is the beginning of thinking. You don’t think until you stumble on something and travel always makes you stumble […] Journeying is not profound but it is spooky and it’s good to get spooked.’ – interview with Anne Carson in 2001

In job search news, I’ve submitted a 2 min video and a cv today. I hope to be shortlisted but you never know with these things. Open to conversations about any leadership role which would help me flex my experience managing small and large teams so if you are curious, please reach out.
