Connecting groups for Nokia (jan 2005)
In the course of 2 weeks, we were asked by the Insights and Foresights group of Nokia in Helsinki to come up with innovative mobile applications for the blue-collar workforce.
I concentrated on healthcare workers as an example of group dynamics where critical information is being exchanged between people in high-stress situations. My process included user reaserch in the form of interviews and emails with professionals. I met with an emergency doctor and a pediatrician from the Ivrea hospital as well as had long email and phone conversations with a former nurse now hospital and healthcare facility inspector in Canada.
I also conducted an extensive amount of secondary desk research in order to get a global image of the problem from different points of view. This amouted to the development of a phone interface which would allow quick and easy in-team communication of informal patient status information as well as management of team patients and their state. Time logging and note taking is facilitated by this application as well, a vital part of the health practitioner's work.
